Not a Happy Camper

[Shoes: Cynthia Rowley, Pants and top: Express, Blazer: Kenneth Cole]
Well to sum this post up: I am sick today, so my brain is absolutely fried and I don't really have much to say. I'm already looking forward to my bed this weekend....

Besides that, this is definitely my most "professional" outfit yet. This was for my first meeting with an agency, which was very exciting and slightly overwhelming. I tried to stay sophisticated, yet comfortable and really felt like I succeeded. It's amazing to me how my style has become reflected in my work outfits and even more fun figuring out how to place old pieces into my new wardrobe!

Well, here's to feeling better..!

$14.95

[Shoes: BCBG, Pants: H&M, Sweater: Banana Republic, Tank: Forever21]
I have been looking for a pair of pants this color for quite some time: the perfect camel that doesn't come too close to brown nor too close to tan/beiege. They are not the best fit as they were 14.95 from H&M, but they will do for at least this year. The best thing? The bottoms are skinny so I can wear them with flats in the weather we have now or with boots in the winter. Transitional pieces are key for me lately because we never know when the weather is just going to flip on us...thank God for layers..

OH p.s. last night I saw the movie, Drive, with Ryan Gosling and I came out of the movie speechless. I don't get it! I thought it was going to be about something very different and I also thought their might be some talking in the movie.....anyone else see it?

Slow Transformation

It's Monday again! Time is really going by way too fast. This weekend was full of fun, a festival with the family, a night out to 120 Bunker NYC with my cousins and some must needed sleep. What a difference my life is with my weekends to myself!

I still don't know how I feel about the pencil skirt on me; it creates a more mature, classic work look for me but at the same time, I am not sure how the shape plays with my body type. Maybe I didn't buy the right fit, but I just think it makes me look bigger than I am. I definitely could use some advice on styling/purchasing the pencil skirt...

Work, work, & Pinterest

Since I just started in my first big girl job, I decided to add a Pinterest board for outfit inspiration. Money is tight so I can't go out and buy a whole new business-casual/conservative wardrobe. This pinboard has provided me with some inspiration for how to put things together and a level of appropriateness for work. Here are some of my favorites that I am planning to continue try and use as inspiration!

Every Girl Needs a Pair

[Shoes: Aldo, Pants: GAP, Shirt: GAP, Vest: Body Central, Watch: Michael Kors]
I'm having writer's block right now. Normally I can wake up in the morning and ramble on here about something completely unimportant. I do love these red pumps though AND they are so comfortable. Good job Aldo...and this shirt, there are sparkles all in it, pretty awesome, no?

[can't live without a red pair of pumps]

Hello Fall

[ Shoes: Steve Madden, Pants: H&M, Shirt: Banana Republic, Sweater: GAP, Scarf: Express]
Yes, I am wearing a thick sweater and a scarf. Though this week is a little warmer, last Friday the temperatures in NYC dropped drastically. Now the temperature is perfect; the mornings are cool enough for layers and the afternoons are warm enough to skip the jacket. Dressing for this time of year is usually the most fun for me, you can combine so many different pieces and looks and change your style every day. I wore this outfit for 'casual Friday' and I was actually proud of myself for pulling off a slightly preppy look. I am leaning towards the classic preppy for this fall/winter and am really inspired by the J.Crew collection out right now, not to mention Olivia Paleirmo daily. How do you make the preppy look your own?

Giraffe Print

[Dress: a store like Marshall's I can't remember, Shoes: Nine West, Belt: F21]
Not going to lie I am a sucker for animal prints, but definitely in small doses. I rarely would purchase a whole snakeskin dress or a leopard print coat (although I might borrow my mom's Michael Kors one). This dress is just the right dose, and its giraffe print, my favorite animal. I'm not sure why, but I think they are so beautiful and buy just about anything that has them on it, which I think might throw off the decoration in my room...

Time for another work week, a little bit more mild weather and a lot of smiles...cheers to Monday, have a fabulous day :)

Monochromatic Blue

[Shirt: American Eagle, Skirt and Necklace: Forever21, Shoes: Carlos by Carlos Santana, Bracelet: H&M, Watch: Michael Kors]
Wow. I look really tan. Must have done a good job with my makeup that day...

So. It upsets me that I wore this at the beginning of this week and now I am in pants, long sleeves, a sweater and a scarf. My one qualm with NY is the drastic changes in weather. I will be honest, I don't dislike the four seasons, but Mother Nature should at least prepare us for them. I barely even have any of my cold weather gear ready to wear. Maybe that will be my chore this weekend. How are you dealing with the transition in weather?

Patterned Perfection

Casual Fridays. Although we are technically allowed to wear jeans, I cannot bring myself to do it. I rarely wear jeans in general or at least they come and go in phases, so I don't know how I'd ever walk into work in them. Maybe tomorrow I will try black ones.

Anyways, years ago I used to think that Aerosoles shoes were for old ladies and my mom consistently tried to convince me otherwise. As per usual, she was right. Yes, some of their shoes were definitely made for my grandmother, but when you really look you can find some great buys. AND they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. It's like you are literally walking on clouds...I walked about 20 blocks and home from the bus in them and my feet only slightly hurt, but they would've in flats too. My next purchase, these.

Neutral

[Sweater: GAP, Shirt: H&M, Shoes: Nine West, Skirt and Necklace: F21, Earrings: Van Huesen Outlet]
This was definitely an interesting outfit for me mainly because I feel like I gravitate either to an almost all black outfit or something with a crazy color or pattern. Very rarely do I stick to neutrals all around. Since I work in the city and so does one of my best friends, I headed out to FNO in this outfit to explore a little. This was my first year going because I have been away at college the past years. We started at Sephora in Columbus Circle which was great because we started off our night with a makeover and some much needed champagne. We ventured on into Bebe, Henri Bendel, Bvlgari and Tommy Hilfiger. The amount of beautiful clothes was great and overwhelming at the same time. (Mind you there were 5 million skinny, beautiful, well-dressed women everywhere...got me to go back to the gym this week.....thanks ladies... :)

Rain Dots

This outfit will forever remind me of the disaster of a morning I had in it. It was Tuesday. It was raining. There was traffic EVERYWHERE. It took 20 min to get to the subway (instead of 5). I had to take the 4 instead of the 1. The 4 decided to stop for 15 min because of train traffic (yea, right...the driver probably had to use the bathroom). I arrived in the city at 8:15 on the east side. My job is on the west side, 9 blocks down. I ran. Yes, ran (after I changed into my flats). Ran to work. In the rain. Let's just say my hair was not straight by the time I got there. Disaster. BUT, my mood was saved by the adorable polka dots in the lining of this blazer. Oh, and they were pink to match my shirt. Oh, commuting and the little things....

Purple Haze

Weirdly, I find shopping outfits the hardest to put together. You don't want to wear shoes that are hard to take off or uncomfortable to walk in, you definitely need layers due to the air conditioner/heat that makes the temperature constantly change and lastly you want to wear a bottom you can try tops on with and a top you can try bottoms on with. Although dresses are super comfortable, how can you try on a cute top with a dress? Exactly.

That was definitely a little bit of a rant, but last week on Labor Day, my mother and I headed to do some shopping to add some more pieces to my work wardrobe. Overall the day/morning was a success and I am excited to keep showing you all the outfits I put together for work every week!

Last, but not least, I hope everyone took the time out yesterday to tell people they love them and to remember those that were affected by 9/11. God Bless everyone and their families as well as you and your families for safety in the future. God Bless America. I am proud each and everyday to call America and NY my home.

[Sweater: Boutique in Hong Kong, Shorts: Banana Republic, Top: Madewell, Shoes: American Eagle]

Floral Affair

[Shirt: random Lewisburg, PA store, Pants: Express; Belt: DKNY, Shoes: American Eagle]
This work outfit was definitely a little more on the casual side because I find it impossible to dress for the torrential rains. It drives me crazy when the bottom of my pants get wet, so I decided these cropped ones were the best way to go. Rain in NYC is the worst.

Sorry for the short post: only one picture due to rushing in the morning and minimal words due to rushing in the morning....maybe I should start doing things at night...

Lace Overlay

[Shirt: Forever21, Dress: H&M, Flats: American Eagle, Earrings: Topshop]
After this week's perpetual rain here in NY, it's hard to believe that I wore this just a couple of days ago. I've seen so many people putting shirts over dresses and dresses tucked into skirts and I finally got the courage and the right pieces to try this trend. Although this is very simple and summer-casual I really liked how the shirt fell over the dress and it definitely hid some of my trouble spots too! These H&M dresses really can be paired with anything!

Happy FNO Thursday and let's pray the rain stops soon...

Embracing Color

[Shoes: ELLE for Kohl's, Dress: Michael Kors, Belt: NY&C, ]
Labor Day weekend has come and passed. Summer is slowing down, the weather is going to be getting cooler (I know I sound depressing, but just wait). One thing I'm not letting go of this fall though is color. Brights, neons, pattern mixing and colorblocking are not just things I'm going to leave behind with the 90 degree humidity. How are you going to incorporate color into your Fall wardrobe? What products do you use to keep the color in your face?

So long sweet summer... :(

Working Girl

As I mentioned in my previous post, I now have worked 3 days at my first full-time-big-girl-NYC job at ION Media Networks. So far, I am loving it; everyone I work with is great and my position is going to be such a great learning experience for me. One of the most fun parts about getting a new job is dressing for it, especially since this summer I spent the whole summer wearing all black at my waitressing job. I am stoked (yes, stoked) to put together outfits I am going to be starting simple at first and eventually working in some more pieces and layering. I also need to start picking out my outfits the night before since I have to wake up at 6am.  Here's one of my first outfits, simple, but comfortable for my second day of work (I forgot to photograph the first!
